Web standards are the current rage in the industry, and for a good reason. Supporting web standards means making web sites that will hold up in future browsers and devices. Clients these days want an investment that will survive the inevitable advances in technology.
Unless a client specifically asks for 'pixel-perfect' compatibility with older browsers, I will hand code their site with a solemn respect for web standards using XHTML and CSS. The end result gives them the peace of mind from having a site that will not need a redesign in the near and rapidly changing future.
